Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty

Project title:
Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty
Poverty often leads to inferior educational outcomes, which then play a major role in determining the future incidence and extent of poverty. The aim of RECOUP is to study the mechanisms that drive this deprivation cycle, as well as to identify the policies needed to ensure that educational outcomes benefit the disadvantaged. It was a five-year research programme under which six collaborative projects were conducted worldwide addressing social issues such as disability, youth, gender, health, citizenship and education. In the research program, more children than ever before - particularly those from poor households - have been moving through schooling and training to become working youths and adults. Their fortunes were affected not only by their educational experiences, but also by the broader context of welfare and opportunity.
